The surety is no longer there. An awareness of stairs and steps, once run up rapidly as a child. Now negotiating the gradient, holding the railing, if there is one. Walking is joy filled but even then one needs to be mindful. The sea has always enhanced my steps, the distance, the roll of the wave, the foam on one’s feet. And one looks down at those legs, now showing decades of life, allowing the toes to still press the sand. The Stepping is a Solitary pursuit.
